The Nimrod II is back where she belongs!

After suffering a serious engine failure whilst displaying at Yeovilton last summer, the aircraft was dismantled and brought back to Retrotec, where the engine was dismantled.  It was found to have suffered a cylinder seal failure, similar to that suffered by the Shuttleworth Hind.  A non-standard cylinder liner top had failed, damaging the cylinder head.  Extensive engineering work to bring the engine back to standard specification was rewarded with a display by HAC pilot Charlie Brown at the Duxford Spring Air Show, where it performed faultlessly.

The Nimrod II is back at Duxford

After having some engine work carried out at Retrotec, the Nimrod II has arrived back at Duxford on the back of a lorry and is now being re-assembled in Hangar 3.

HAC Hurricane for Sale

We have decided to put up for sale our Hurricane (G-HURI), as a precursor to the arrival of our original Hawker Fury which is due to fly this Summer. It will be sad to see the Hurricane go, but it will go on a high note after the extensive exposure it has had with Anna Walker and the ATA celebrations last year; it is expected however that we will continue operating it for the whole of this season and we are continuing to take bookings for this summer as usual. Much work has been done on the Hurricane, including the fitting of a new Merlin 29 (the correct engine for the type), together with a thorough overhaul of the whole airframe so the new owner will have one of the most original and well-sorted Hurricanes.

Nimrod II Update

The Nimrod, as will be known, had an engine problem at the Yeovill (check spelling) display last year. The problems proved more extensive than we first thought, and so the aircraft was brought back to our facility in Sussex, the engine removed and stripped down. The necessary engineering work has now been completed in our own engine rebuild facility at Retrotec and it should be back in the aircraft in February after bench testing. The opportunity was also taken to do a major service on the aircraft down here.
